How to Connect Grok Bot to WhatsApp (No Code, 2-Minute Setup)
If your customers, suppliers and team all write to you on WhatsApp, you probably spend a big part of your day scrolling through chats. Once you connect Grok Bot to your WhatsApp, you can just ask:
- "Who's waiting for a reply from me since yesterday?"
- "What did the supplier group decide about Friday's delivery?"
- "Tell Ana we have it in blue and I can deliver Thursday."
Grok Bot reads your chats, finds what you need, and sends messages from your own number, but only when you ask it to.
This guide shows you how to set it up with WhatsApp MCP. There are no settings to dig through: you copy one short prompt, paste it into a Grok Bot chat, and Grok Bot does the rest. You don't need to install anything, write code or get a new number, and it takes about two minutes.
What you need
- WhatsApp on your phone. Regular WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business, with the number you already use.
- Grok Bot. On your computer or your phone. Grok Bot works from its own computer in the cloud, so you set it up once and it works wherever you use it. The free plan works.
- Two minutes, with your phone nearby.
You don't need a new phone number, Meta's WhatsApp Business API, a developer, or a server.
Step 1: Get your setup prompt
- Go to wa-mcp.com.
- Under Which AI do you use?, choose Grok Bot.
- Click Generate my Grok Bot link.
- You'll see a short prompt with your personal WhatsApp link already in it. Click the copy button to copy the whole prompt.
Save your link somewhere safe, like a password manager or a private note. It's shown only once, and it works like a password: anyone who has it can use your WhatsApp. For the same reason, don't share the prompt or a screenshot of it. If you ever lose the link, generate a new one and link the same phone. Your account and subscription carry over.
Step 2: Paste the prompt into Grok Bot
- Open Grok Bot and start a new chat.
- Paste the prompt and send it.
- Grok Bot shows an Allow message to add the WhatsApp server. Click Allow.
Grok Bot adds WhatsApp MCP as a custom server called wa-mcp, connects to it and checks whether your WhatsApp is ready.
That's it for Grok Bot. The server stays saved, so later chats can use WhatsApp without pasting anything again. You can find it under Connect apps → Connected.
Step 3: Link your WhatsApp
The first time, your WhatsApp isn't linked yet, so Grok Bot tells you and offers to link it. There are two ways:
With a QR code (best if Grok Bot is open on your computer)
- Grok Bot shows you a QR code.
- On your phone, open WhatsApp → Settings (iPhone) or the ⋮ menu (Android) → Linked devices → Link device.
- Scan the QR code.
With a pairing code (best if you're using Grok Bot on the same phone)
- Ask for a pairing code and give Grok Bot your phone number with country code.
- Grok Bot gives you an 8-character code.
- In WhatsApp, go to Linked devices → Link device → Link with phone number instead, and type the code.
This is the same way WhatsApp Web links to your account. WhatsApp MCP shows up as a linked device, and you can remove it from that screen at any time.
Step 4: Try it
Start with a few questions to see how it works:
- "Who's waiting for a reply from me in the last 24 hours?"
- "Summarize my chat with Carlos from this week."
- "Find the address Laura sent me."
- "Tell Ana I'll be there at 7."
Before sending anything, Grok Bot should confirm the recipient and the message with you. Nothing goes out unless you ask for it.

What Grok Bot can see after you link
When you link a new device, WhatsApp shares some of your recent messages with it, the same as when you open WhatsApp Web for the first time. From then on, every new message is available.
- Grok Bot can read the recent messages in a chat, including what WhatsApp shared when you linked.
- Search covers messages that arrived after you linked, up to the last 90 days.
So if you link today, "What did we quote John last week?" may find nothing yet. A week from now it will.
How much it costs
- Free trial: 1 hour of every feature, no credit card.
- After that, free: Grok Bot can still read, summarize and search your chats and send text messages to people who've written to you in the last 90 days. Messages it sends end with "Sent via wa-mcp.com".
- Pro: removes that line and adds sending files, scheduling, and editing, reacting to and deleting messages. US$9/month, US$7/month billed quarterly, or US$4/month billed annually. Every plan has unlimited use.
To subscribe, just ask Grok Bot: "Subscribe me to WhatsApp MCP." It gives you a secure Stripe checkout link.
If something doesn't work
- The QR code expired. Ask Grok Bot for a new one.
- Grok Bot doesn't seem to know about WhatsApp. Start a new chat and ask "Is my WhatsApp connected?". If that doesn't help, check that wa-mcp is still under Connect apps → Connected.
- The setup failed or Grok Bot says the link is wrong. Remove wa-mcp under Connect apps → Connected (or ask Grok Bot to remove it), start a new chat and paste the prompt again. Don't paste it into the same chat twice.
- You lost your link. Generate a new one at wa-mcp.com, remove the old wa-mcp server, paste the new prompt into a new chat, and link the same phone. Your account and subscription carry over.
Frequently asked questions
Does it work with WhatsApp Business? Yes. It connects to the number you already use, on regular WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business. There's no new number and nothing to migrate.
Will my customers know Grok Bot sent the message? No. Messages go out from your own number, exactly as if you had typed them.
Can this get my number banned? To WhatsApp, it's a normal linked device, like WhatsApp Web. Most bans come from sending too much, too fast, especially to people who never wrote to you, so WhatsApp MCP has guardrails built in: “typing…” before every message, no bulk sending, and new conversations spaced out (at most 1 a minute and 10 every 12 hours). Chats with people who've written to you aren't limited. Other WhatsApp tools send whatever the AI asks. No tool can fully remove the risk on an unofficial connection, but this keeps your usage looking like a person, not a bot.
Does my phone need to stay on? No. Linked devices work on their own, so your phone can be off or offline.
Can I keep using WhatsApp on my phone as usual? Yes. Nothing changes on your phone.
Is my data private? WhatsApp MCP stores your messages only so Grok Bot can search them, and deletes them automatically after 90 days. Your data is never sold or used to train AI models. The messages Grok Bot reads are also processed by xAI under its own privacy policy, as with anything else you share with Grok Bot.
Is this an official WhatsApp or xAI product? No. WhatsApp MCP is an independent product. It isn't made, endorsed or sponsored by WhatsApp, Meta or xAI. It connects to your WhatsApp as a linked device, and to Grok Bot as a custom MCP server.
Can I connect two numbers, like personal and work?
Yes. Generate one link per number and paste each prompt into its own new chat. In the second prompt, change the name on the Name: line (for example to wa-mcp-work) so the two servers don't clash. Each number needs its own subscription.
How do I disconnect or delete everything? Ask Grok Bot to "unlink my WhatsApp", or remove the device under Linked devices in WhatsApp. To remove WhatsApp from Grok Bot, ask it to remove the wa-mcp server, or go to Connect apps → Connected, click wa-mcp and remove it. To delete your account and data, ask Grok Bot to "delete my WhatsApp MCP account". That also cancels your subscription. Your WhatsApp account and chats on your phone aren't affected.
Ready to try it? Get your setup prompt. It's free to use, and you don't need a credit card.
